POLICY & GUIDELINES

The Charity supports nine distinct deserving groups:
  • Education
  • Churches
  • Medicine
  • Youth
  • Disability
  • Heritage
  • Relief of Poverty
  • Elderly
  • The Arts

We periodically review all our grant-making policies and from time to time may realign our priorities between these groups.

Support is more commonly given to cathedrals, churches & other ecclesiastical bodies, hospices, schools & other educational establishments when there is a specific close or long-standing connection with The Grocers’ Company.

All applicants are sent a written reply to notify them of the Company's decision.

Only applications from organisations that are UK-registered charities will be considered.

Donations will not be made direct to individuals (but may be paid through registered charities).

The Charity will consider requests to support both capital and revenue projects.

It is usual practice for successful applicants to be advised that a further request for support will not be entertained until at least two years have elapsed from the date of the successful application.

Unsuccessful applicants are advised that a further request will not be considered until at least one year has elapsed from the date of the relevant application.

Donations are made by way of a single payment and are of a non-recurring nature (although occasionally a commitment to fund a project for a limited period will be agreed).

Public acknowledgement of the Charity’s support is allowed, although it is preferred that it is undertaken in an unobtrusive manner.
